Get out of your Comfort Zone and get into your Growth Zone.
“We cannot become what we want to be by remaining what we are.” — Max DePree
- Do you have something that you always wanted to do, but were to afraid to do them, being driven by fear of failure, being inadequate, rejection or embarrassment?
- Or a new plan that requires skills and knowledge outside of your Comfort Zone.
As beings we consistently gravitate to our Comfort Zones, this means that we are wired to seek comfort; as a result we have hourly, daily, weekly, yearly familiar patterns and habits. So when something threatens these habits and try to break them, we get uncomfortable and nervous, to avoid CHANGE we reject them in order to reduce negative feelings. The challenge is when you comfort Zone is driving you in the opposite direction to meeting your desired goals.
Location, People, thoughts and actions are the four things that make us comfortable.
The key is to break out of your comfort Zone, as you know any move against human nature, does not come naturally, the results that you deliver will continue to be ordinary, and the only solution is to do something extra ordinary
Here are some tips to make the transition easier and more comfortable.
Education is Key
Take a moment to think about the areas that you feel stuck in your comfort zone, how you plan to get out of it, and what goals you want to set to make the changes, research each area as much as possible, read case studies, books and blog. Find guides that give you step by step instructions for the task out side your Comfort Zone, keep going back to the resources identified throughout the process.
Find a Coach
Find someone that you can relate to that is an expert or is associated within the area that you would like to emulate, there need to be hands on or close tutorial guidance every step of the way, and what I mean by this, find a class that will let you participate while working with classmate, sharing knowledge and information, most of whom could be in the same situation as you. There is safety and comfort in numbers.
1 step @ a time
The first step is always the most difficult, but any task can be broken into segments /steps, this will become your path to achieving your goal, some beings can make a change in one leap once they decide to tackle the obstacle, however that is not the best approach for everyone, the formula for success is one slow process with key tasks that helps to reinforce and internalise the experience and build gradual comfort.
Expanding your Comfort Zone
By braking down the tasks through a series repetitive actions or approach, you are actually expanding your comfort Zone, in areas that you would not have considered doing you are now doing them without a second thought, you will then find your self changing your plans as you grow in expanding your Comfort Zone.
By breaking through your comfort zone you are opening your mind to new experience, so it will be natural for your goals to change.
We have to be willing to learn and grow in order to be comfortable to share what we know.
